FALL PROJECT: Major-N-MOtion Short Film

The Process of Filmmaking

This fall, Conservatory trainees will take on an original short film project from the ground up. This offers full immersion into how a film comes to life, from first concept to final cut. Working directly alongside our Resident Educator, students will fill nearly every role themselves: creative concepts, strategy, directing, and post production skills.

Beyond technique, trainees will gain hands-on experience with the real mechanics of filmmaking: production planning, on-set problem-solving, and what it takes to turn an idea into a finished piece of work as a team. Trainees will gain hands-on experience with production planning, on-set problem-solving, and the teamwork required to turn an idea into a finished piece of work. It's a rare opportunity to build creative range and professional skills that extend far beyond the studio, whatever form the story ultimately takes.

Major-N-Motion (he/him) is a Webby, Shorty, and Telly Award–winning producer and director whose work sits at the intersection of dance, film, and storytelling. In partnership with GLAAD, the world's largest LGBTQ+ media advocacy organization, Major founded NEON, an ongoing digital content series spotlighting the visibility of Afro-descendant LGBTQ+ people and their allies with campaigns with Mastercard, Kellogg's Pop-Tarts, and Ally Financial.

Major-N-Motion will work with the dancers in unlocking storytelling, training in cinematography and production of a documentary short film style project.
